Math Statistics basics Mode

The mode is the most common value in a data set. In comparison to the mean, the mode (like the median) is relatively insensitive to extreme values ("outliers").

It is also possible that several mode occur. This is the case when multiple values are the most common.

  • $1, 1, 1, 4, 5, 5, 8$: The mode is $1$. It occurs most often.

  • $6, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9$: The modes are $6$ and $8$. They are equally frequent and more common than the other two values.
